Who runs TrackTak

TrackTak is my personal checklist of Mac software — every program my team has tested, every app I’ve logged, and every plugin that’s passed the review. I built the site so I’d stop losing track of versions, compatibility notes and the tools we actually rely on. You can browse everything without an account, or sign up free to build your own working list.

How the site works

You don’t need an account to browse the catalogue. All program pages are public, with version numbers, file sizes, macOS compatibility and install notes listed on each one. Older builds stay up for older Macs, so if an update drops support for your system, you can still find the build that works.

With a free account you can do three extra things:

  • Favourites — save any program to your list and come back to it later.
  • Update notifications — when a saved program gets a new version, you’ll see a notification on the site.
  • Comments — leave a note on any program page. Every comment is moderated before it appears publicly. You’ll see your own comment straight away, marked “awaiting moderation”.

There’s no newsletter, no marketing email and no account emails beyond on‑site notifications for updates you’ve chosen to track.

What the catalogue covers

The site lists 636 programs, games and plugins across eleven sections. That includes Mac Apps and macOS utilities for everyday work, Photo and Design tools for creative teams, Audio editors and VST Plugins for sound work, AI Tools that run on Mac, and a Games section with tested titles. There’s also an Office section for documents, spreadsheets and project‑management tools.

Every entry is a program my team or I have actually checked. New entries get added as we test them, and existing ones get updated when a new build appears.

The name and tagline

“TrackTak” is a made‑up compound — track what you use and tak as in the action of taking a note on a checklist. It’s a project manager’s word, not a real dictionary term, and it stuck because it sounded right for a working list.

The tagline — “Mac software, checked and listed” — says exactly what the site does. No reviews, no star ratings. Just a checked item on a list.

Who the site is for

TrackTak is for people who manage Macs for themselves or for a team and want a fast way to see what’s current, what’s compatible and what’s worth keeping. It suits project managers, IT leads in small studios, freelancers who run several machines, and anyone who prefers a clean checklist over a long review.

If you’ve got a program you think should be listed, or you’ve spotted an error in a spec, you can reach me at [email protected]. I read every message and I keep a queue of tools to test.

TrackTak is run by me, Ines Calder — a project manager in Bristol who keeps everything on checklists, including the apps on my team’s Macs.
