Privacy and cookies

This page explains how TrackTak handles your data and uses cookies. It may be updated occasionally—check back for the latest version. The date of the last change will always be shown at the bottom.

What we never do

TrackTak does not sell, rent or share your personal data with anyone. There are no third-party advertising trackers on this site, now or in future.

Notifications and email

All notifications live on the site. When a program you have saved gets an update, you see a flag in your account area. TrackTak sends no marketing email, no newsletters, no bulk mail. The only email you might receive from us is a direct reply if you write to [email protected].

Server logs

Like almost every website, our server keeps ordinary access logs for security and troubleshooting. Each line records:

  • your IP address
  • the browser and operating system your device reports
  • the pages you requested and the time of the request

Logs are kept for a short period, then automatically rotated out. We do not use them for profiling, analytics or anything beyond keeping the site running safely.

Deleting your account and comments

You can ask us to delete your account and all comments attached to it at any time. Write to [email protected] from the email address on the account. Once we confirm, the display name changes to “deleted user” on any remaining comment thread, and the account data is removed.

What an account stores

When you create a free account, TrackTak stores:

  • Display name – the name that appears on your comments and profile
  • Email address – used only for account access and, if you contact us, verification
  • Hashed password – your password is never stored in plain text; we keep a one-way hash
  • Favourites – the list of programs you have saved
  • Comments – text you submit, tied to a program page
  • Notifications – on-site flags, for example when a saved program gets a new build

You can browse the full catalogue without an account; none of the above is collected from visitors who are not signed in.

Comments and moderation

Every comment is reviewed by a moderator before it appears publicly. While a comment awaits moderation, the author sees it marked “awaiting moderation” on the program page. No-one else sees it until it is approved.

The moderator sees:

  • the comment text
  • your display name
  • the email address linked to your account
  • the program page the comment was left on

Once a comment is approved, the display name and comment text are visible to anyone visiting that program page. The email address is never shown publicly.

Cookies

TrackTak uses cookies in a deliberately minimal way.

  • Visitors who are not signed in receive no cookies at all. You can browse the catalogue without a single cookie being set.
  • Signing in sets two cookies:
    • a session cookie, so the site knows you are the same signed-in visitor as you move between pages; this cookie expires when you close your browser
    • a small sign-in marker cookie, which lets you stay signed in between visits if you choose “keep me signed in”; it does not track activity, only confirms that a valid session exists

There are no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies and no tracking cookies from any third party. If you sign out, the session cookie and the sign-in marker are both removed.
