Several features sit in plain sight but go unused for months.

• Stitch clips together — drag multiple source files onto one queue item. They encode as a single continuous file, no timeline needed.
• Auto-close on completion — tick the checkbox in the queue panel's flyout menu. The app quits after the last job finishes.
• Duplicate with a double-click — hold Option and drag a queue item to copy it, preset and all.
• Preset groups — organise saved presets into folders in the Preset Browser. Collapse groups you're not using.
• Parallel encoding — enabled by default since a few releases back. Multiple jobs run at once when your hardware supports it; check Preferences to adjust the count.
• System notifications on completion — macOS notifications ping you when a batch finishes. Turn them on once in Preferences > Notifications.
• Keyboard shortcut for adding files — Cmd+I imports source media; Cmd+Shift+W creates a new watch folder.
• Right-click a completed item — reveals "Show in Finder" without digging through your output path.

Workflow: creating multi-format social cuts from one master

You have a 4K ProRes master and need a 16:9 YouTube version, a 1:1 Instagram cut, and a 9:16 TikTok clip — all with burnt-in captions.

1. Open Adobe ame. Drag the ProRes master into the queue.
2. Select the first item. In the Preset Browser, pick YouTube 1080p HD under the Social category.
3. Click the preset name in the queue to open the Export Settings dialog. Under Effects, enable Burn-in captions and point it at your .srt file.
4. Back in the queue, Option-drag the item twice to create two duplicates.
5. For the second item, open Export Settings again. Switch the frame size to 1080x1080 (square) and adjust the crop to centre the subject. Keep the caption burn-in.
6. For the third, set 1080x1920 (vertical). Crop and reframe as needed.
7. Assign each item a different output folder: /exports/youtube, /exports/instagram, /exports/tiktok.
8. Hit the green play button. Three platform-specific files encode in parallel.

The adaptive H.264 bitrate setting in each preset adjusts automatically — no manual bitrate math for different frame dimensions.

The move to version 26.5 brought a few changes that affect everyday encoding sessions.

Match source audio for multi-channel — previously, sending a 5.1 or quad-channel sequence from Premiere Pro meant manually configuring channel mapping in the Export Settings. Now the encoder reads the source configuration. Stereo stays stereo. 5.1 stays 5.1. No more accidental downmixes.

Watch folder reliability — over the last few point releases, Adobe quietly improved how watch folders handle rapid file replacements. A folder set to encode ProRes proxies now picks up a replaced file within seconds, where earlier builds occasionally stalled.

Queue recovery after crash — if the app quits unexpectedly, the queue is restored on relaunch. Completed items stay completed; pending ones resume from where they stopped. This arrived a few versions ago and keeps a long overnight batch from becoming a total loss.

Back up the ~/Documents/Adobe/Adobe Media Encoder/ folder before running any cleaner tool, or you'll rebuild your preset library from scratch.
