Don’t Starve Together — Mac download
Ticked

Don't Starve Together pulls in players who like their survival games shared. One person can handle a base, another scouts the map, both need to eat before nightfall. Everything on the map is cooperative — resources, threats, seasons.
- Pick a character, load into a shared wilderness map.
- Gather flint, twigs and food before the first night hits.
- Craft tools and a fire to keep the darkness — and its creatures — away.
- Divide tasks: one farms, one hunts, one builds walls.
- Track the seasons. Winter freezes crops; summer burns them.
- Revive a dead teammate with a telltale heart or a touch stone.
Minutes fill up with small, urgent decisions. Sanity drops. Hounds howl. A teammate runs out of light two screens away. It is a checklist of constant minor crises, and that is exactly why it works.
Roll back a day after Deerclops wrecks your base
- Hosts can now roll back a world to the start of the previous day — useful after a disastrous Deerclops visit.
- Action queuing got smarter. Hold shift to line up pickaxe swings, tree chops or turf digs without hammering the mouse.
- Wormwood's blooming mechanics were rebalanced, so farming as the plant character feels less punishing in multiplayer.
- Crock pot recipes now show predicted results before you commit ingredients. Fewer wet goop accidents.
- Controller support tightened up. Targeting chests and crock pots with a gamepad no longer fights you.
Shrink the world before winter starves your trio
Before your first winter kills everyone, open the server settings. A few tweaks turn a frustrating wipe into a fair challenge.
- World size — drop it to Medium for two to three players. Huge maps mean half the session is walking.
- Starting season — leave it on Autumn. Spring starts with rain and frog rain; new players quit fast.
- Death reset timer — set the world reset timer to a longer delay or infinite. Regenerating the map because one person disconnected overnight is a morale killer.
- Lag compensation — disable it if you host. Client-side prediction often makes kiting feel sloppy on Mac builds.
- Chat wheel — bind it to a spare mouse button. Quick callouts save teammates faster than typing.
Fix a mod crash without wiping your save
Game crashes shortly after launch
The Mac build dislikes certain fullscreen resolutions on M-series chips. Switch to windowed mode first, then adjust resolution. If you cannot reach the menu, edit settings.ini in the Documents folder and set fullscreen = false.
Friend cannot find the server
Steam's server list sometimes loses peer-to-peer sessions. The host should send a direct invite through the Steam friends list. If that fails, both players restart Steam — not just the game. The session usually reappears.
Severe lag with three or more players
One player running Don't Starve Together from a slow external drive drags the whole server. Move the install to the internal SSD. Also, turn off "netbook mode" in the graphics settings — it caps the frame rate but does nothing for network lag.
Mods stop working after an update
Klei patches sometimes break client-only mods like Combined Status or Geometric Placement. Unsubscribe and re-subscribe in the Steam Workshop to force a fresh download. Then delete the modoverrides.lua file from the world save folder and let the game rebuild it.
Missing textures or black screen
This happens after a macOS point update. Verify file integrity through Steam first. If that does not fix it, delete the Documents/Klei/DoNotStarveTogether folder — cloud saves will restore your worlds, and the client rebuilds clean config files.
For a fresh install, mount the disk image and drag the app into the Applications folder. Launch from Launchpad once copying finishes. No extra steps needed.
- macOS 10.12 or later
- Intel and Apple Silicon Macs
- English, Simplified Chinese interface
