Easy Red 2 — Mac download
Ticked

Most shooters give you a gun and a corridor. Easy Red 2 gives you a platoon and a problem: a village to take, a line to hold, or an armoured push to break. The minute-to-minute work is reading the field and positioning your people before you ever pull a trigger.
Jump into any soldier or tank seat mid-fight
- Place your squads behind walls and hedgerows, using the large map to track unit positions.
- Switch to any soldier or vehicle crew member when the fight shifts—grab a tank gunner's seat to knock out a Panzer, then jump to a rifleman pushing through a wheat field.
- Call for suppressive fire while a second squad flanks a machine-gun nest.
- Watch explosions tear through sandbags, fences, and parked cars, reshaping the cover you planned around moments earlier.
- Re-arm from fallen soldiers or abandoned vehicles when ammo runs low.
Orders and direct control
Squad commands set the direction, but the simulation handles the ballistics and movement. You can stay in the commander's view issuing orders, or drop into any soldier or crew seat to do the shooting yourself. Tank crews let you drive, aim the main gun, or man the hull machine gun depending on where you sit. Every role has its own job to do.
Dawn on the Gustav Line with three squads and two Shermans
You open the map at dawn. Three squads pinned behind a low ridge, two Shermans idling near a copse. Your checklist for the next ten minutes:
- Place the rifle squads. One on the left flank, behind a broken stone wall. One in the centre, prone in a ditch. One held in reserve near the tanks.
- Mark targets. The MG42 nest in the farmhouse window gets priority. Tap the map, issue a suppress order.
- Move the armour. Shermans roll forward at quarter speed, hull-down behind the slope. You jump into the lead gunner's seat, dial the range, and put a round through the farmhouse wall. The suppression icon flickers over the German squad inside.
- Push the flank. Back to the map, order the left squad to advance. They move through a vineyard, firing as they go. Two men drop from a sniper you did not spot. You mark the sniper's window for the second Sherman.
- Clean up. The centre squad storms the farmhouse. Room-to-room fighting lasts thirty seconds. You end the session re-arming a medic from a fallen rifleman's bandolier.
How it runs under load
On an M4 Mac mini, sixty-plus units on screen with smoke and shell impacts holds a steady frame rate. The engine prioritises stability over spectacle—textures are functional, not flashy. Loading a large map takes under fifteen seconds from an SSD. RAM use sits modestly; no memory creep across a two-hour session.
What you notice day to day: the simulation layer eats more CPU than the graphics. Vehicle pathfinding occasionally stutters when terrain gets tight, but infantry movement and ballistics stay snappy.
