Ticked

Stardew Valley attracts people who want a morning routine of watering parsnips, not a morning commute. It's a game about small, steady progress. You start with a run-down farm and an abandoned community centre. You end up with something that feels yours.
Roe from legendary fish ponds comes faster
- Legendary fish ponds produce roe more often. The average daily value got a bump.
- Performance optimizations keep things smooth, even on older Macs.
- A Junimo bundle button now appears in fridge and mini-fridge interfaces — fewer trips to the community centre.
- Several crashes, multiplayer issues, and localization fixes landed.
Still just a farm full of weeds and a letter from Grandpa
You still arrive in Stardew Valley with a letter from your grandfather and a farm full of weeds. The valley's rhythms — planting, mining, fishing, befriending — haven't changed. ConcernedApe's one-person development still shows in the consistent pixel art and the unhurried pace. The community centre is still abandoned at the start, waiting for someone to gather bundles and bring it back to life. The game runs on ARM and 64-bit x86 Macs, same as before.
Skip most timers and fish for a season
Stardew Valley sits between a few familiar Mac options. My Time at Portia adds 3D crafting and workshop management, but it pushes you toward building queues and commissions. Stardew lets you ignore most timers and just fish for a season if you want. Graveyard Keeper shares the pixel look and the dark humour, yet its systems feel heavier — embalming, sermons, tech trees. Stardew keeps its tools simpler. Animal Crossing is the obvious life-sim neighbour, but it runs on Nintendo hardware, not macOS. For Mac owners who want a farm sim without a console, the choice usually comes down to Stardew or Portia. Most of my checklist-driven brain prefers Stardew: fewer menus, fewer fetch chains, more room to set your own goals.
Small conveniences worth remembering
- Hold
Shiftwhile buying seeds or hay to buy in stacks of five. - Right-click to place items from your toolbar into chests one at a time. Great for organising.
- The
Tabkey cycles through toolbar rows. You can carry three rows after the first backpack upgrade. - Sleeping early moves the season along. If your crops are ready and the mines are cleared, skip the 2 a.m. scramble.
- The fridge and mini-fridge Junimo bundle button means you can check what the community centre still needs without leaving the kitchen.
- Fish ponds show an exclamation mark when they're ready. Check them before bed — legendary fish ponds now produce roe more often, so that exclamation mark is worth more than it used to be.
Red outline shows exactly where your tool will hit
- Turn on Show Tool Hit Location. It puts a red outline where your hoe or watering can will land. Saves a lot of missed tiles.
- Set Zoom Level to 80% or 90% on a large display. You'll see more of the farm at once without losing the pixel detail.
- Enable Auto-Run unless you prefer walking. It cuts travel time across the map noticeably.
- Change Community Centre Bundles only if you started a save before the Junimo button update and want the new interface visible everywhere. Otherwise leave it alone.
- Turn on Show Advanced Crafting Information. It tells you whether you've already cooked or crafted an item, which prevents duplicate tools in chests.
- Legendary fish ponds produce roe more often and have a higher average daily value.
- Performance optimizations added.
- Junimo bundle button added to fridge and mini-fridge interfaces.
- Several crashes, multiplayer issues, and localization issues fixed.
- macOS (64-bit)
- Apple Silicon or Intel processor
