One reverb sounds fine. Chain it into a delay, then a bit-crusher, and suddenly the timing feels static. Infiltrator solves that by letting you stack effects and sequence exactly when each one hits — all inside a single plug-in.
Runs on Intel Macs back to El Capitan
- Runs on macOS 10.11 and later, Apple Silicon and Intel.
- Available as VST, VST3, AU and AAX.
- Infiltrator 2 opens projects made with the original version.
- Interface language is English.
- Current Mac build is version 2.5.26.
Sound and modulation
Up to ten effects can be stacked and sequenced in a single instance. Version 2 doubles the effect count, presets and modulation parameters compared with the original. A new output limiter arrived in 2.5, along with custom beat divisions for tempo-synced processing. The modulation engine keeps everything moving, so sequences never feel like a static loop.
Performance and daily use
Infiltrator loads quickly and stays snappy even with complex chains. CPU use scales sensibly — a single instance on a recent M-series Mac barely nudges the meter. Stacking ten effects with heavy modulation naturally demands more, but the engine handles real-time tweaking without audible dropouts.
Stability
- No crashes observed during long sessions in Logic Pro and Ableton Live.
- AU and VST3 formats behave identically on Apple Silicon.
- Automation lanes respond smoothly, with no parameter jumps on playback.
Resource use
- Idle instance: negligible CPU draw.
- Full chain with convolution reverb and analogue-modelled filters: moderate load, comparable to running three separate plug-ins.
- RAM footprint remains low — under 200 MB in most scenarios.
Sequenced modulation goes deeper than Effect Rack
Versus Soundtoys Effect Rack: Both let you chain effects, but Infiltrator's step-sequenced modulation runs deeper. Effect Rack focuses on analogue-flavoured processing; Infiltrator pushes into glitch, granular and rhythmic territory that Effect Rack doesn't touch. If you want character saturation in a chain, Soundtoys. If you want every effect slot to move over time, Infiltrator wins.
Versus Cableguys ShaperBox 3: ShaperBox is a superb multi-band modulation suite with precise curve editing. Infiltrator counters with full effect variety — filters, distortion, pitch, delays — rather than modulation shapes alone. Producers who need tight, drawn modulation curves on volume, filter or width often reach for ShaperBox. Those who want to sequence entirely different effects per step lean toward Infiltrator.
Versus Kilohearts Snap Heap: Snap Heap offers modular-style chaining and a lean interface. It excels at simple routing and quick sound design. Infiltrator goes further with its modulation sequencer and preset depth — less visual patching, more rhythmic precision. For straightforward parallel processing, Snap Heap holds its own. For sequenced, evolving multi-effects, Infiltrator leaves less to patch manually.
