Workflow: thickening a sterile drum loop

3. Bring the resonance up to roughly 35%. You should hear the filter begin to bite just above the kick fundamental.
4. Engage the saturation effect. It is linked to the cutoff — as you open the filter, saturation decreases. Dial the effect mix to 40% so the body of the drums thickens.
5. Add the stereo widening effect at 25% mix. The hats and snare tail spread slightly without collapsing the centre image.
6. Switch on the autofilter. Choose a sine LFO shape and set the rate to a dotted eighth note. Depth at 20% gives you a subtle, breathing movement.
7. Push the FX Boost slider to 60%. The reverb and phaser saturate together, adding a short ambience that glues the loop.
8. Fine-tune with the envelope follower. Increase sensitivity until the kick transient briefly opens the filter, then closes it on the decay. The loop now pumps with its own groove.
