Parkitect is for the detail-obsessed park manager. The one who checks queue times while laying a new coaster, then adjusts the price of umbrellas before it rains. It is a modern take on classic theme park tycoon games, built around the small decisions that make a park tick.

Minute to minute, you switch between three modes. In build mode, you shape terrain, scoop out a lake, and place one of over 70 attractions. Then you route a path, set an entry fee, and drop a staff room behind the scenes. Your haulers need shortcuts the guests never see. In manage mode, you scan the heatmap for litter, tweak a janitor's patrol zone, and check why a coaster's excitement rating dipped. In pause, you scroll through Steam Workshop items, pull in a custom flat ride, or install a mod that overhauls staff AI. Then you unpause and watch the gate receipts tick up.

Building a themed area from scratch

A new zone starts with terrain, not rides. Clear a flat patch, then raise a small hill at the back. Add water running along one side. The landscape gives the area a reason to exist — the coaster wraps around the water, the flat rides cluster near the hill.

Next, lay the spine path. One main route that curves past four attraction plots. Drop a thrill ride at the far end to pull guests through. Place two family rides mid-way, and a gentle ride near the entrance. Guests spread out when the big draw sits deep.

Now the backstage layer. Staff room tucked behind the hill. One-way staff path connecting it to every ride exit. Assign a dedicated janitor and hauler to the zone. Their patrol boundaries stop at the waterline. No overlap with the neighbouring zone's crew.

Scenery last. Three large objects per ride — a rock formation, a custom sign, a fence type that matches the theme. Small decor along the queue. The excitement rating ticks up with each piece. Check the heatmap once more, open the ride, and watch the first guests file in.

First days with Parkitect

  • Start with the tutorial campaign. Two short scenarios teach depot logic and staff routing. The game's supply system punishes you if haulers walk too far, and the tutorials make that visible.
  • Bind the terrain raise and lower tools to keys 1 and 2. You will use them more than any coaster editor. Flat parks score lower on guest immersion.
  • Check the depot stock tab every 15 minutes in-game. A ride with empty supply boxes shuts down silently. The alert appears late.
  • Place a first-aid room near the park entrance, not the back. Sick guests leave faster and your park rating recovers sooner.
  • Browse the Steam Workshop before your second sandbox. Filter by “coaster blueprints” and grab three pre-built designs. Reverse-engineering them teaches clearance and banking faster than building from scratch.
  • Set umbrella price to double on hot days. Guests pay without complaint and the profit margin funds your next coaster.
