macOS 14 and enough space for the terrain files

SnowRunner runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. You need macOS 14.0 or later, and enough free space for the large terrain files.

Set up controls

The game recognises most gamepads straight away. Keyboard driving is workable for scouting, but an analogue controller gives you the throttle and steering finesse that deep mud demands.

Adjust performance

On Apple Silicon, start with medium shadows and shaders, then raise them if frames stay smooth. Switch off the in-game frame limiter first—VSync often does a better job on Mac displays.

SnowRunner plays well with the tools you already keep in your Dock.

• Discord or Game Center — send a convoy invite without alt-tabbing into chaos. Voice chat keeps the four-player co-op clear, especially when someone misjudges a frozen lake.
• QuickTime screen recording — capture a recovery that should have been impossible. The mud physics replay well.
• Focus modes — set a gaming Focus that silences notifications. Nothing breaks immersion like a calendar alert while you are winching out of a bog.
• iCloud Drive — manual save backups live here if you ever want to roll back a region. The game handles its own cloud saves, but a local copy costs you nothing.

Finish Black River, unlock the garage, scout first

1. Finish the tutorial region. Black River teaches you mud, water, and cargo weight. Do not skip it.
2. Unlock the first garage upgrade. More recovery slots mean fewer long drives back after a rollover.
3. Scout before hauling. Take a small 4x4 and uncover watchtowers. Revealed terrain shows mud pits and shortcuts that a loaded truck cannot risk blind.
4. Buy mud tyres first. Highway treads are a trap. Mud tyres unlock early and change every contract.
5. Learn the winch. Attach to strong trees, not saplings. A snapped winch point leaves you deeper than before.
6. Set a manual save after every major delivery. Autosave is generous, but your own checkpoint takes two seconds.
