Photographers with external drives, video editors juggling client disks, and anyone with a drawer full of archive media uses NeoFinder to keep track of where everything lives.
Catalog a drive from start to finish
Plug in an external disk and add it to the catalog. NeoFinder scans the full directory tree and pulls out thumbnails, XMP data, EXIF tags and GPS coordinates. The disk can go back on the shelf afterwards — the catalog stays searchable offline. Add multi-line annotations to folders you want to remember: client notes, shoot dates, anything that helps later. Generate an MD5 FileCheck checksum for the disk image if you need to verify the data down the line. When a colleague asks for a specific raw file from last spring, you search the catalog, find it instantly, and see exactly which labelled disk it sits on.
Search offline disks and read media metadata
Offline asset tracking. Searching across hundreds of disks without mounting them. Reading metadata from photos, audio and video files. Building a central index that tells you what is where.

Speed up slow scans and fix missing raw thumbnails
Catalog scan running slower than expected? Check for deeply nested folder structures or drives with hundreds of thousands of tiny files. Splitting the job into smaller catalog chunks often helps. If thumbnails for raw files don't appear, make sure the camera manufacturer's codec is installed on the Mac — NeoFinder relies on the system to decode previews. When geotags read as blank, verify the original photos actually have GPS data embedded; some workflows strip it on export.
After a neofinder download, users sometimes overlook that the app needs full disk access in System Settings to scan certain volumes. Grant it under Privacy & Security, then restart the scan. For anyone hunting down a neofinder for mac free download, the setup is straightforward: drag the app into Applications and launch. The first catalog build is the slowest; subsequent updates only scan changes, so they complete in seconds.
A session photographer's afternoon
Maria shoots three portrait sessions a week. Each client gets a dedicated SSD, labelled and stored in a cabinet. She runs NeoFinder to catalog every drive after the final export — thumbnails, ratings, and keyword tags pulled straight from the XMP sidecars. When a bride from two years ago asks for a specific black-and-white shot, Maria types the bride's surname and filters by rating. The catalog shows the filename, the disk label, and the geotag. She pulls the right SSD from the cabinet, mounts it, and has the file in under a minute. No mounting five wrong drives first.
Editing files. Cloud sync. Replacing a full digital asset management system with collaboration tools. It catalogs — it does not alter.
