You know how a single Pultec emulation can change the weight of a kick drum. Arturia FX Collection 6 scales that idea across 39 processors — classic studio units and modern tools, all sitting in the same plugin menu.
Tone shaping through modelled circuit grab and saturation
It reshapes tone and dynamics through modelled circuits. The compressors add grab and glue; the preamps push signals into saturation without making you reach for a separate saturator.
How do you control the colour?
Every effect exposes the controls that defined its hardware ancestor — bias, emphasis, recovery time. The tape emulations, including the new Tape J-37, let you dial in wow, flutter and wear from a single panel.
Tape J-37 on the mix bus for cohesive softening
Tape J-37 sits on the mix bus or an instrument group for cohesive softening. Bus Transient lives on drum shells and percussion, sharpening or suppressing attacks without touching sustain.
Parallel blend a crushed FET signal under a clean DI
The suite supports parallel processing per instance. You can blend a crushed FET signal under a clean DI without duplicating tracks or setting up aux sends.
A scenario: sound designer builds a dystopian drone
A sound designer opens a field recording of a ventilation shaft. The raw clip is thin — metallic resonance, no weight.
They drop Efx Ambient on the channel. The freeze function grabs a two-second slice and stretches it into a wash. That becomes the bed.
Next, Pitch Shifter-910 shifts the frozen wash down a fifth and blends it at 40%. The drone now has a harmonic shadow moving underneath. Then a Distortion Tube-STA insert before the pitch shifter — gain cranked until the edges crackle, output pulled back so the next stage stays clean.
On a duplicate track, they load the same recording through a Bus Transient, killing the sustain and leaving only the sharp intake puff. Hard-panned right. The original wash drifts left.
Three moves, no sampler, no synth. The whole environment came from one vent recording and four Arturia plugins.
Kill the Tape J-37 noise floor on your terms
Every plugin ships with sensible defaults. A few tweaks make them yours.
Tape J-37 — disable the noise floor immediately. The hiss is authentic, but you want it on your terms. Turn the Noise knob to zero, then bring it back only when the track needs that texture. While you are in the panel, set the IPS speed to 7.5 for darker tone on bass groups or 15 for a tighter top on vocals.
Bus Transient — switch the detection filter to Listen mode. The default works on full-band transients. Click the sidechain headphone icon and sweep the frequency until you hear only the snap you want to keep. Leave it there. Your snare top mic now triggers only on the stick attack, not the ring.
Efx Ambient — reduce the Size to 8 and raise the Diffusion. The factory preset sounds vast, which buries detail. A smaller size with high diffusion creates a tight, grainy cloud that sits behind the dry signal instead of swallowing it.
Any compressor in the collection — switch the detection to RMS if you are on a bus. Peak detection on a drum group fights every transient. RMS averages the energy and glues without pumping. Flip it in one menu.
Match gain fast with the top-right output trim
Things you might not notice until month three.
- Output trim on every plugin. Most modelled effects boost level when you drive them. The output knob at the top-right of every interface lets you match gain without opening a separate utility. Set it once per patch.
- A/B comparison in the top bar. Click the A/B button to store two states of the same plugin. Toggle between them while the loop runs. No need to duplicate the track or scribble recall notes.
- Preset browser — type three letters. The search bar accepts partial names. "FET" pulls every 1176-style compression preset across all compressors. "Pitch" finds the new Pitch Shifter-910 presets alongside older modulation patches that use pitch shifting internally.
- Wet lock. On time-based effects, right-click the Mix knob and select Lock. Now you can audition delay or reverb presets without the dry/wet balance resetting to each preset's saved value. Small thing, massive time-saver during sound design sessions.
- Drag-and-drop modulation. In Efx Ambient and several others, drag the little crosshair from the mod section onto any knob. A single LFO or envelope follower can control filter cutoff and reverb size simultaneously. Two clicks, no matrix.
Producers pulling the full arturia fx collection 6 suite often overlook these because the default patches sound finished out of the box. The real speed comes when you treat the 1,400 presets as starting points, not destinations, and let the lock, trim and A/B tools keep you moving.
- Tape J-37 added — a reel-to-reel tape emulation with adjustable wear, wow and flutter.
- Bus Transient added — a transient shaper for tightening or loosening attacks on grouped channels.
