Smart Cleaning

Smart Cleaning runs in the background, watching for junk build-up. When your browser cache hits 5 GB, it offers to clear it. No digging through folders required.

  1. Open CCleaner Pro and select Smart Cleaning from the sidebar.
  2. Toggle on Enable Smart Cleaning.
  3. Set your thresholds for browser data and system junk.
  4. Check the box to auto-clean without asking, or keep prompts on.

That is it. The app handles temporary files, system logs and unused leftovers while you work. Browsing traces from Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Opera stay under control. For confidential files, the built-in shredder runs multiple overwrite cycles so deleted data does not come back.

Reclaims GBs on cramped 128/256 GB SSDs

Mac users with smaller SSDs. A 128 GB or 256 GB drive fills fast. CCleaner Pro reclaims gigabytes just by clearing browser caches and system logs most people never touch.

People who share a Mac. If your partner, flatmate or kids use the same machine, browser histories pile up across Safari, Chrome and Firefox. One click wipes the lot — no need to open each browser separately.

Freelancers handling client files. The shredder with multiple overwrite cycles matters when you delete contracts, invoices or NDAs. A standard trash empty is not enough.

Users keeping older Macs alive. On a MacBook Air from 2015 or an iMac stuck on Catalina, every gigabyte counts. Clearing out temp files and app caches keeps the machine snappier without upgrading hardware.

Opera cleanup and one-click tray scanning

  • Right-click the tray icon to run Smart Cleaning instantly — no need to open the main window.
  • Browser cleaning picks up Opera. Plenty of cleanup tools forget Opera exists. CCleaner Pro does not.
  • The analysis step shows file counts before deletion. Tap Analyze first to see what is safe to remove. No surprises.
  • Recent-file lists get cleaned too. Not just browser data — app-specific recent-document lists across macOS get cleared in the same pass.
  • Multiple verification levels. The app checks file types and locations against a safe list before deleting anything. You can clean with confidence, not caution.

14 GB free before lunch on a cluttered MacBook

You sit down at your MacBook at 9:00. Yesterday you downloaded three large PDFs from a client portal, ran a few adobe ccleaner searches for a colleague, and left a dozen tabs open in Chrome. Your SSD has 14 GB free. Time to tidy up.

09:02 — You right-click the CCleaner Pro icon in the menu bar and pick Run Smart Cleaning. The app scans in the background while you check email.

09:03 — A notification pops up: 2.8 GB of browser cache, temp files and system logs are ready to clear. You click Clean.

09:04 — Done. Free space jumps to 17 GB. You open the full app and switch to the Tools tab. There is a folder of old client drafts you want gone for good. You drag it into the shredder, pick 3-pass overwrite, and confirm.

09:06 — You click Analyze on the main cleaning panel. It lists Safari cookies from a session yesterday, plus a temp folder from a video editor you uninstalled last month. You tick both and hit Run Cleaner.

By 09:08 the Mac feels lighter. Browsers launch faster. The desktop has breathing room. You close CCleaner Pro and get on with work, knowing it will nudge you again when junk crosses the 5 GB threshold.

Questions the team asks

It runs on OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) and later, on Intel 64-bit Macs.
